Schools outreach

In 2025 we initiated our Music in Schools programme, taking our artists into local primary schools. The results have been inspiring, with several hundred children to date having the chance to talk to and hear performances by the Sacconi Quartet and pianist Anna Tilbrook at Edgar Sewter Primary in Halesworth, and by Lumas Winds at Wenhaston Primary.

We’re already planning future visits with generous support from our audiences, many of whom share our concerns about the downgrading of music in education.

If you would like to find out about this important work, or to contribute financially to its success, please contact Jonathan Birt at concertsatcratfield@hotmail.com.

❋ Edgar Sewter Halesworth

“It was truly a wonderful experience for the children to hear such talented musicians play for them live.  I know that you saw this in the children's faces, but I wanted to repeat it again.  When I asked children at lunchtime, I got responses such as, 'good', 'great', 'the best assembly' and some of the younger ones mimed how to play the instruments.”

❋ Wenhaston Primary School

“My thanks again to all those involved in arranging and supporting this afternoon's performance. It was brilliant, and I would welcome the opportunity to do such events again in the future,”

  • "I can only think of music as something inherent in every human being - a birthright. Music coordinates mind, body and spirit.”

    Sir Yehudi Menhuin

  • "Music is bringing me a great deal of pleasure, and such pleasure as I think can only do me good."

    Jane Austen (Emma)

  • "Learning music is a birthright. And you have to start young. Music education offers so much to us all, whatever our age... Apart from the obvious cultural value, employers want people who can work in teams, think laterally and not in straight lines, all of which music gives you in spades."

    Sir Simon Rattle
